Part 2: The "Being, Doing, Having" Framework - Building a Foundation for Success
Welcome to Part Two of the 'The Career Alchemist: Transforming Your Professional Life in 2025' Series.
In our previous post, we explored the crucial first step of discovering your professional purpose. Now, we'll dive into the foundational framework that will enable you to bring that purpose to life. It's not enough to simply know what you're meant to do; you must also become the person capable of doing it. This is where the "Being, Doing, Having" framework comes into play. This concept emphasizes that true and lasting success begins with who you are becoming, not just what you're doing or what you have.

The "Being, Doing, Having" Concept
Think of a tree. The seed is its beginning, the trunk is its structure, and the fruit is the result of growth and maturity. The "Being, Doing, Having" framework mirrors this natural process:
Being: This is the seed of your potential, your identity, your character, and your mindset. It is the foundation of everything you will accomplish. It encompasses who you are at your core, your beliefs, your values, and your understanding of your unique purpose. It’s about becoming the best version of yourself. This aspect of the framework is about personal development, as it recognizes that you must grow to achieve more.
Doing: This is the trunk of the tree– the actions you take, the work you do, and the effort you put forth. Your actions stem from your "being." The choices you make and the activities you engage in are reflections of your identity. Therefore, if you want to change what you are doing, you must change who you are being. Everything you do flows from who you think you are.
Having: This is the fruit of the tree, the results you experience - the rewards, the accomplishments, the material possessions, and the impact you make on the world. "Having" is the natural outcome of aligning your being with your doing. It is not the main goal, but the natural result of consistent and aligned effort and growth.
This framework highlights that your ability to "have" more (achieve more success, more impact, more abundance) is directly tied to your willingness to "do" more, which is, in turn, reliant on the quality of your "being." Therefore, you must cultivate your "being" to do more and have more.
The Importance of Personal Development
Many people focus solely on their actions, attempting to achieve more by working harder and longer, but true progress comes from focusing on personal growth, as it is a prerequisite for professional achievement. By developing yourself and expanding your capabilities, you increase your capacity for action and your ability to achieve the results you desire. To change your results, you must change the seed of who you are, then the tree (your actions) will naturally grow and bear the fruit (results) that you want.
Identify Areas for Growth: Take an honest look at yourself.
What are your strengths, and how can you leverage them?
What are your weaknesses, and what steps can you take to improve them?
Do you have limiting beliefs that are holding you back?
Are there skills you need to develop?
Align Your Inner Self: Ensure that your actions align with your true identity and your purpose.
Are you acting in accordance with your values?
Are you pursuing activities that excite and energize you?
Are your actions in line with who you are becoming?
Reject Your 'Li-Dentity': Many people live according to a "li-dentity" based on how others see them. This can include limiting beliefs based on the opinions of others, such as "you're not smart enough" or "you're not good enough." In order to grow and fulfill your purpose, you must reject this.

Patience and Perspective
It’s important to understand that this transformation of your "being" takes time. Like a tree, you need time to grow and develop. In a world that often demands instant results, it is crucial to remember that everything is beautiful in its time. It is not necessary to set goals with deadlines that may not align with the timing of your growth.
Trust the process: Personal development is not an overnight fix, but rather a continuous process.
Be patient: Don't get discouraged if you don’t see immediate results.
Focus on growth: Keep your focus on personal development, trusting that the fruit will come in due time.
By embracing the "Being, Doing, Having" framework, you can build a solid foundation for your professional success. You'll move past the frustrations of working hard but not getting the desired results, toward a life and career that is deeply rooted in purpose, growth, and fulfillment.
